Front working space clearance should be in line with the primary work zone.
Overlapping of primary work zones at the corners of the table creates problem.

Workspace Design: principles of component layout in different work zones

Let take a case of a vegetable vendor, on his cart the list of objects are A)potatoes, B)carrots, C)pumpkins, D) money box and E) weighing scale. He has to display and all his salable objects and keep his money box and weighing scale in an appropriate location for his ease of operation.

First we need to observe his way of attending customers and customers’ behavior of buying.
His way of handling items are applying below mentioned principles of prioritized with

component location which may be judged against a rating scale of 1-5, where 5= very high, 3= OK, 1= very low. If based on any one principle the components are placed, from the view points of other principles it may not be proper. For this, the ratings are taken on all four principles and then an aggregate response of these decides the final component lay out. Suppose we get the below ratings against each item:

Point of view through different component layout principles

Hence, to distribute, D (Money box) and E (weighing scale) would fall in zone I; A, B in zone II; and C in zone III.

This means, the money box and weighing scale lies in the primary zone of the seller, so that he can access it quickly and no one else can access it.

Potatoes and carrots being popular commodities are in zone II accessible to both the vendor as well as buyer for choosing and weighing.

Pumpkins being big and less sold are in zone III, where they would not obstruct the vendor's activities much and can be accessible to the buyers for weighing. Based on the above, a cart can be designed from the view point of vendor's ease of operation. Such study also could be done from the view points of customers, and both the needs are compared and the final layout of the horizontal kidney shaped surface on the cart can be conceptualized. If need appropriate curvatures on the surface may also be give to take care of ease of reach to various items on the surface.
